Proteins are the building blocks of our body. Protein is needed to build up cells and tissues and help maintain and develop muscle mass. Your daily diet should provide at least 60 grams of protein. When your protein intake is too low it can lead to muscle atrophy. After bariatric surgery, meeting your recommended daily protein requirement through your diet is a challenge, because your overall food intake is reduced. Supplementation is therefore recommended to maintain muscle mass.
