Sleeve gastrectomy

A large part of the stomach is removed. The result is a stomach tube (= sleeve). This new, smaller stomach (100-150 ml) is less elastic and will stretch less. The food can only pass through and can no longer be stored in the stomach. You do not only feel saturated more quickly, but the hunger feeling is also strongly reduced, because in the removed piece of the stomach, there are cells which produce an appetizing substance (ghrelin).
