Bariatric Advantage®MAGNESIUM & VITAMIN D contains magnesium which contributes to the  maintenance of strong bones and is beneficial for the muscles3, in combination with
vitamin D3. In addition, folate supports the psychological function for instance in moments of stress1 and folate, magnesium, vit. B6 and  B12 help in case of fatigue2.

Causes of MAGNESIUM deficiency?
Up to 80% of the population is magnesium deficient. Causes are: insufficient magnesium supply through nutrition, stress situations and taking antacids (PPI’s), as a result of which magnesium from food is absorbed more difficultly. Magnesium naturally occurs in chocolate, nuts, white beans, spinach, artichoke or tuna. The recommended daily intake of Mg is 300-400 mg for adults. Supply through the diet is estimated at 200-300 mg, so often insufficient.

Causes of VITAMIN D deficiency?
Only a small percentage of vitamin D is consumed via food (20 %), the rest is produced through exposure to sun beams (especially UVB radiation). Since our exposure to the sun is often insufficient, vitamin D shortage is very probable. A food supplement with vitamin D is thus recommended, especially after bariatric surgery. Vitamin D deficiencies are very common among people who have undergone bariatric surgery. That is because vitamin D is stored mainly in the fat mass, as a result of which these people run a great risk of having a vitamin D deficiency already before bariatric surgery.

Why Bariatric Advantage® MAGNESIUM & VITAMIN D?
Complete formula: one tablet contains 900 mg of magnesium glycerophosphate, a particular  magnesium salt which is excellently tolerated by the stomach and the intestines, supplemented  with cofactors such as active B-vitamins (vit. B6, B9 (folate) and B12), taurine and vitamin D3.  These cofactors work in synergy with magnesium. The advantage of active B-vitamins is that they are immediately available for effect in the body. Vitamin D ensures that magnesium is stored in the body longer and conversely magnesium activates vitamin D.

Facts and more

“Up to 80% of the population is magnesium deficient”.

Magnesium helps to release energy and to reduce fatigue. It supports the transmission of nerve impulses and the proper functioning of the muscles. It contributes to the maintenance of strong bones and teeth… Symptoms of a deficiency are: fatigue, being overconcerned, irritable, muscle cramps, spontaneous muscle contractions (e.g. eye twitching), restless legs, cold hands or feet and/or teeth grinding.

Vitamin D supports the immunity, contributes to the maintenance of strong bones by increasing the calcium and phosphorous absorption. Vitamin D deficiencies are very common among people who have undergone bariatric surgery. A lasting vitamin D deficiency may lead to several disorders.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How long after ingestion is magnesium absorbed?

Magnesium is absorbed by the body 1 to 2 hours after intake.

Is it possible to overdose on magnesium?

There’s no risk of overdosing on magnesium, except in case of severe renal insufficiency. Generally, a magnesium surplus is quickly eliminated through one’s urine.

Can Calcium inhibit the action of Magnesium?

Yes, important quantities of Calcium, taken at the same moment with Magnesium, can affect the absorption of Magnesium. Therefore, do not take the Calcium soft chews along with Magnesium. For example take the Magnesium tablets during the meals and the Calcium soft chews between the meals. To guarantee an optimal absorption of both minerals it is better to let at least 2 hours between the two intakes of the different minerals.

Are there any side effects to taking Bariatric Advantage® Magnesium & Vitamin D?

Bariatric Advantage® Magnesium & Vitamin D contains magnesium glycerophosphate, is not laxative and is well-tolerated. Therefore, Bariatric Advantage® Magnesium & Vitamin D® doesn’t cause cramps and/or diarrhoea.

Why does Bariatric Advantage® Magnesium & Vitamin D contain vitamin D?

Vitamin D ensures that magnesium stays in the body longer and, conversely, magnesium ensures that vitamin D is activated. Vitamin D is equally important for the immune system and for strong bones and teeth.
